The rapid socio-economic development in Bhutan has brought changes in individual lifestyles resulting in increased risk behavior of the urban population, particularly the Drayang girls. This study investigated the underlying factors influencing the sexual risk behaviour of Drayang girls and their vulnerability to HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI).
The National Strategic Plan III outlines key interventions to bring the country close to the realization of its vision. Since the detection of first case in 1993, much has been done and much achieved.
This article is an attempt to review the current data on the epidemiology of HIV infection in Bhutan since the first case of HIV was diagnosed in 1993. It aims to analyse and describe the infection trend in the country with the hope that it will inform future interventions and serve as a reference for other similar types of countries.
